History of Model Railway Train Manufactures

Let’s take a tour of the major model railway train manufactures. The first manufacturer we will look at is Atlas Model Railroad Company. The Atlas Company was founded in Newark NJ. in 1924 by Stephan Schaffan Sr.  The company name was the Atlas Tool Company. Stephen Schaffan Jr. went to work in 1933 for his father at the tool company when he was 16 years old. Stephen Jr. often visited the local hobby shop buying parts for his model airplanes. He would ask the owner each time he visited if he had anything he could do to make some extra money. One day the hobby shop owner handed him some model train track and ask him if he could improve on them. He made a switch kit that began selling very well. It sold so good that the whole family began assembling the kits at night. Father and son soon realized that they could make a living building model railroad track. So in 1947 they opened up at factory in Hillside NJ., just for model track. Today the company builds a complete line of model train products including locomotives, rolling stock, track, structures, and accessories.

Now let’s take a look at Bachmann Industries, manufactures of N, HO, On30, O, G, and S scale model trains. They also build accessories, track, structures, and DCC controls. In 1899 a company called the Carlisle’s firm, which was run by Henry E. Bachmann merges with a company owned by his father Henry G. Bachmann along with his brother. The company changed its name to Bachmann Brothers. Over the next several years the company manufactured many different items, including sunglasses for the United State Army Air Force during World War II. In 1968 the Bachmann Company entered the model train manufacturing business with the introduction of a line of N scale trains and accessories. They entered the HO scale market in 1970. In 1990 Bachmann entered the G scale market, producing a large line of Garden Railroad locomotive, tracks, and accessories. In 1981 the company was sold to the Kader Group which now produces the model train under the name Bachmann Industries.

One of the most popular train manufactures in the US was Lionel. The Lionel Train Company was founded in 1900 by Joshua Lionel Cowen and Harry C. Grant. In 1901 the company delivered its first model train set. This train ran on brass rails and was battery operated. In 1906 Linoel produced the first train that ran on three rails. This would become the main seller for the company. During World War II the company stopped the production of their metal trains to make products for the US Navy. During this time Lionel made a paper train that was printed on card stock and had to be put together.  In 1945 the company begins producing only O scale trains. The company went through several hard times and finally went bankrupt. In 1986 Richard Kughan bought Lionel from General Mills. This new company would become Lionel LLC, which produces the Lionel trains today. This is just three model train manufactures. There are several more model railroad train manufacturers. Whatever manufacturer you decide to use remember always have fun train modeling.

Happy modeling,

Steve Barnett

A Wealth of Kid Hobby Ideas

www.YOUVIXX.com

An interesting kid hobby will help children learn as well as keep them entertained for hours.  It might even help them stay away from a bad peer group and stay out of trouble.  Some kids might think of video games or TV as an appropriate kid hobby, but most parents would like to see their kids doing something more challenging or educational.

A good kid hobby is playing a musical instrument.  The guitar can often be self-taught from a book if a child has the interest, but for piano playing or other instruments, you will probably have to invest in lessons.  Practice is, of course, an essential part of mastering any musical instrument.

Another type of kid hobby is pursuing an art or a craft.  Kids can learn to draw, paint, or make scrapbook pages.  They can learn needle arts, such as embroidery, sewing, knitting or crocheting.  Beginning carpentry is a very useful kid hobby that may turn into a career, or at least skills that will be used for a lifetime.
Tinkering around on gas engines or electronics is another kid hobby that can lead to useful skills.

There are all sorts of things that kids might like to collect for a hobby.  Some of the more common collections are of stamps, coins, and rocks.  Stamps are interesting because they can be from many different countries, becoming a geography lesson.  Coins and stamps both are of historical significance, and encourage reading to learn more about different eras in history.  Rock collecting as a kid hobby requires looking into science books.

http://youvixx.com/

Other collectibles include bean bag toys or figurines of a certain thing, such as owls, frogs, or unicorns.  Anything a child has an interest in can be collected.  If a kid is interested in dolphins, for instance, she may not only collect dolphin figurines and posters, but also be motivated to read books about dolphins.

Construction sets also make a good pastime for kids.  Many people may think of these only as toys, but children who have grown up with these sets and added components to them down through the years can create some pretty impressive models.  They are also gaining skills in reasoning and perception as they build.

http://youvixx.com/

Making model, such as cars, boats, and airplanes, has always been a popular kid hobby.  If your child is interested in making models, be very encouraging in the beginning.  Model car kits can be very complicated and require a great deal of precision.  If your child’s first few creations leave a little bit to be desired, don’t laugh or scold, or he is likely to never want to try to make anything again!  Get the easiest kit he is willing to make and then patiently help him as much as needed.

Many kids enjoy sports, making any athletic activity a great kid hobby.  Soccer, basketball, and little league baseball all come to mind, but don’t forget about track and field events.  Maybe your child would enjoy distance running or gymnastics.  An active kid hobby will help your child stay in shape as well as make an interesting pastime.

Rc Model Airplane Building Supplies

Rc Model Airplane Building Supplies

Do you find yourself simply watching TV in your spare time? Would you prefer spending your time doing something more fulfilling? You might want to try a new hobby. It can help with stress-release, increase your social circle, and, in some circumstances, earn you extra money. If you’re not quite sure where to start, the following guide can give you some hobby ideas:

If you are a musical person, why not learn to play an instrument? Playing music is a great stress reliever, and gives you a sense of achievement. You can choose to either teach yourself, or fins a qualified teacher in your area. Guitars and pianos are the most popular instruments of choice, but there are more unusual instruments to try, like the saxophone, flute or even the harp. Instruments can be expensive to buy, however, it may be worth looking out for some bargains on second-hand instruments on internet auction sites or in your local music shop.

Do you enjoying working with your hands? If so, a more craft led hobby, such as cooking or scrapbooking, could be for you. It is possible to attend cookery classes from beginners levels to more advanced, and these can be great places to swap recipes and meet new people. If you enjoy taking photos, you may enjoy scrapbooking as it gives you a chance to display your photos in an attractive way. Many art and craft shops sell scrapbooking kits and it is easy to get started. Scrapbooks can also make lovely gifts for loved ones.

If you like collecting things, you might like to think about collecting for a hobby. People collect all sorts of things including stamps, coins, watches, pens and teddy bears. If you have a passion for something, why not collect more?

Do you like to keep active and do things outdoors? There are many different activities you can take up as a hobby, including walking or hiking. There are many walking and rambling clubs located throughout the country and new members are always welcome. This is a relatively inexpensive hobby to take up – you may want to buy some new hiking boots or shoes, but other than that there are no other costs. Another fun outdoor activity is flying remote controlled planes. This high-paced enjoyable hobby is growing in popularity quickly. If you are a beginner, consider joining a flying club, as other members can give advice and tips about flying. Planes can be expensive to buy, and the possibility of crashing and having to repair models is all too real, but beginner’s models are generally less expensive than the more professional models and also easier to fly so are less likely to crash.

Finally, if you feel you need more stress relief in your life, why not take up yoga? Classes are organised all over the country, at gyms, sports centres, and sometimes at schools and youth centres. There are many different types of yoga, including Iyengar and Hatha, so you might want to try a few different classes to find out which one suits you best. There are classes suitable for all levels, so it doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new friends.

These are just a few ideas for a new hobby. Once you have decided what you’d like to start as a hobby, do some research to see if there are any clubs or organisations in your area. The most important thing is that you enjoy your hobby – this is a way for you to spend your spare time, make new friends and learn a new skill.

Lucy Penn is an online marketer and researcher who is currently researching remote controlled planes.

Rc Model Fun Questions

What is a good intermediate/beginning level RC helicopter?

i am playing the piccoz Z now. a small and rather fun to control RC heli. however, i think that it is time for me to move on to more serious models. i would like a full functioned RC heli that is both fun to play yet hard to break. would anyone recommend me a model?

RC helicopter are quite easy to break. Its nearly impossible to not break something when you crash it. I personally started out with the Picco Z helicopter and then moved to the E-Flite Blade CX(2 , 3) Helicopter. The 2 and 3 states there are 3 versions of it now. I would suggest the second one. Blade CX2. But that helicopter is good as a stepup. It has coaxial blades that make it easy to hover. Reason for that is when you let go of all controls, it should self center and not move in any direction. The helicopter is strong, and the things you’ll most likely break is the landing gear or the blades. So if you buy this, be prepared to stock up on spare parts.

After that, get the E-Flite Blade CP Pro 2. Its a step up from that helicopter. Once you learn the functions of the coaxial helicopter, its just learning how to balance and hover the pitched helicopters and then flying.
