The most recent model is the flat type that is often fitted to small aircrafts. And, with its air cooling facility it does not heat up easily. The only disadvantage associated with the boxer engine model is the cost of production. Many manufactures claim that its large size and sophisticated accessories increase costs and time of production. This explains why the engine model is expensive and rare. Boxer engines are also bigger and heavier. Therefore, manufactures require more materials in their assembly. To reverse this image, Subaru Company has conducted many trials in their search of a smaller but powerful and efficient boxer engine model. Manufactures have hopes of reducing the cost of production and assembly following the engine’s reduced size.

I’m looking for a gift for my boyfriend’s 25th birthday which is coming up in July. He’s very interested in aircrafts from the second world war – particularly the AC-130 Spectre Gunship, Lancaster and Spitfires. He likes to buy models of aircrafts and build them up/paint them etc and he has an interest in diecast models also.

From automobiles and motorcycles, Honda Motor Co. is moving into aviation as it invests $27 million in a North Carolina plant to build engines for small business jets.
Fumitaka Hasegawa, the chief executive officer of the unit said at a press briefing in July 17 that construction of the factory and a headquarters for Honda Aero Inc. will soon begin in Burlington, North Carolina. The unit will initially create 70 new jobs, according to Mike Easley, the governor of the state.
As the biggest engine manufacturer in the whole world, Honda now has committed $127 million for aviation facilities, which include $40 million for a Greensboro, North Carolina, plant to build the eight-person HondaJet. The Japan-based company has said that it has more than 100 orders for the $3.65 million aircraft, which will utilize the company’s engines and will rival with models from Textron Inc.’s Cessna, the largest maker of business jets.
Richard Aboulafia, an analyst at Teal Group in Alexandria, Virginia, who has consulted with Honda on the aircraft market, said that it is going to be a slow, difficult battle. According to him, the company is going to get a responsive market, but will have to pay to enter it. He also said that Honda will probably have to spend nearly the same amount in marketing costs as they are for facilities.
In 2010, the Burlington factory will commence building HF120 turbofan engines. Its initial annual production is about 200, according to Honda. Through a venture formed in 2004 with General Electric Co., the largest maker of aircraft engines in the world, the engines will be sold.
In lieu of promoting fuel efficiency, Honda said that the engine will be as much as 50 percent more fuel-efficient than it competing turbofan models.
The engine will also be “the lowest cost to own and operate” according to Mark Wagner, program manager for the GE Honda Aero Engine venture. He said the sales price might be less than $500,000 each.
Honda will perform the final assembly in Burlington, while General Electric will be held responsible for the repair and service under their joint venture. GE spokesman Rick Kennedy claimed that the partnership has sold more than 200 engines.
Been based in Reston, Virginia, the Honda Aero unit is moving 15 people from the location.

If you think that the major airlines are the only job possibilities for flight attendants, then you’re missing out on one of the fastest growing areas in the aviation industry. In the wake of 9/11, many of the major airlines cut back on flights in reaction to the decreased demand for air travel among the general public. In response, many corporations have turned to either manning their own mini-air forces, or to hiring smaller airlines for their business and corporate trips. If you’ve never considered corporate flight attendant jobs, the differences may surprise you.
Salaries vary for corporate flight attendant jobs, but are generally better than commercial flight attendant jobs.
First, the nitty-gritty. Expect that those hiring for corporate flight attendant jobs will be looking for experienced flight attendants – two or more years in flight experience is the norm. You may need to relocate to be where the corporate flight attendant jobs are – the big jobs in corporate flying are in Los Angeles and New York. That said, the salaries for corporate flight attendants tend to run between $33,000 and $100,000 depending on the type of company for which you fly. There are several types of players in the corporate flight arena:
Fractional Operators are airlines that service several corporations, giving each business partial ownership of the airline. They’ll generally pay the least of all the corporate operators, though there are exceptions. Starting salaries are in the $30,000 range, depending on flight miles logged. Many fractional operators don’t require any previous corporate flight attendant training, and will train you to their own specifications. Each company has its own requirements, to which you’ll have to adapt. One other advantage to working for a fractional operator is that where you live may not be as important, as they’ll often allow you to airline to meet up with a plane.
Charter Operators pay a bit more as a general rule. Corporate flight attendant jobs with charter operators often offer a starting salary of $40,000. Charters let their aircrafts and crews for individual runs rather than having them on standby for part owners or full owners, therefore you’re likely to log more in air hours than with either other model. The actual salary that you’re offered will depend on your experience and the location of the hiring company, but the average salary for corporate flight attendants working for charter operators is $53,000.
Owner Operators are companies that own their own aircraft and staff them with their own employees. The salaries vary widely from company to company, as do the expected duties. Corporate flight attendants working for an owner operated corporate airline may make as little as $25,000 – and be expected to do everything from take dictation to serve coffee – or as much as $100,000 if they supervise other flight attendants.
One other thing that deserves mention is the possibly of flying ‘contract’. Much like working long-term temp nursing or other assignments, a contract corporate flight attendant is available to work on a contract basis through an assignment agency. Pay is often $350 and up per diem when you’re on assignment, and may include transportation to and from the flight’s originating city and a meals allowance.
